Devon William Sanders

Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, support and overflowing love throughout this experience.  We feel very blessed to have Devon home with us and doing very well.  He is such a good baby.  It's so hard to believe he's over a week old already!  He is smiling & already holding his head up.  His first pediatrician appointment was last Tuesday, and the doctor said he is doing very, very well.  As far as we know, he does not have any ongoing problems or concerns as a result of his "rough start."  Landrea has helped me set up a blog of my own:  www.dailydoseofdevon.blogspot.com  There is a link on this page.  I will try to get started blogging soon, and keep it updated as often as I am able.
I love you all!

Pictures!!!

We (Grandma, Mom, Chi, Me and the kids) just got back to Ft. Worth - we didn't want to leave and Tiffany was sad to see us go. She texted me when we got home and said they had just seen him and he was still doing well. They will xray his chest again in the morning to see his progress.

We got to see him again before we left and I was very excited that I got to touch him and give him a kiss on his sweet head (and take pictures with a flash)!! He likes to be on his belly and it's good for him because when he is laying like that he only has to be on 26% oxygen. On his back, it's about 95%. So here are a couple pictures - he is such a chunky monkey. I just love him!!

Good News!!

They finally got to hold Devon!! At first they thought it would be at least tomorrow before they could, but since he has made so much progress, the nurse said it was ok.

Here's the deal: the "leak" in the left lung has closed up and the right one looks a lot better. His head is no longer in the "bubble" (which is why they were able to hold him). He only has the breathing tube around his nose. I'll try to post pictures as soon as possible - I think they took some when they held him and if she has her cord I can get them uploaded.

Update on Devon

As of 3:30 am:

Most of you may already know, but just in case you don't, here's what went on last night:

Tiffany started running a fever while she was in labor which meant there was an infection. They gave her antibiotics and decided to see if she would progress past 8 cm. The fever wouldn't come down and she wasn't progressing so they decided to do a C-Section.

When Devon came out (born at 11:51 pm) he was very still and quiet so they barely showed him to Tiff and shipped him out. He is in NICU with a right lung that is collapsed or has pneumonia and a left lung that has an air leak. They gave him antiobiotics in case it is antibiotics. Devon is also on 100% oxygen with a bubbble around his head. He is breathing on his own which is good. Matt persuaded them to let me, Mom, Grandma and Chiara see him one at a time but we couldn't talk to him or touch him. He is a BIG baby - 9 lbs. 15 oz. and 20 in. long. He doesn't look like a newborn!

Since we all got in so late we are just now getting up and around and as far as I know none of us have talked to Tiffany or Matt this morning. I'll update as soon as I hear something. Also, Matt did manage to get the nurses to let him take pictures without a flash so maybe when we go up there we can get them downloaded and posted.

Waiting on DEVON!!

Tiffany went in for her doctor's appointment today and her fluid levels were at a 2 so they decided to induce. We're at the hospital right now waiting for him to come.

This is Matt and Tiff before she changed into her hospital garb!

Me, Tiff and Chi before she changed - Matt took it at a weird angle...

In the bed waiting to get her IV and everything all hooked up. She got her own cute hospital gown :)
I'll post more pictures as things happen...don't worry, nothing gross. We're all SO excited to see him!!
